Everything about Mantle Staking and mETH
What is Mantle Staking? +
Mantle Staking (mantlestaking.com) is a liquid ETH staking protocol on Mantle Network and Ethereum. Deposit ETH and receive mETH (Mantle Staked Ether) — a liquid ERC-20 token that earns 7.2% APY through Ethereum validator rewards plus MNT bonus incentives. No minimum deposit, no lock-up, and mETH is usable across 280+ Mantle DeFi integrations.
What is mETH? +
mETH (Mantle Staked Ether) is a liquid staking token issued by Mantle Staking representing your staked ETH plus accumulated rewards. The mETH/ETH exchange rate grows over time as Ethereum validator rewards accrue — meaning 1 mETH always redeems for slightly more ETH than you originally deposited. mETH is an ERC-20 token fully composable with Mantle and Ethereum DeFi.
What APY does Mantle Staking offer? +
Mantle Staking offers 7.2% APY, composed of: ~3.5–4.5% base Ethereum consensus layer staking rewards (variable based on network participation) plus additional MNT token bonus rewards funded by Mantle DAO treasury. The MNT bonus component brings total yield above native ETH staking rates, making Mantle Staking one of the most competitive liquid staking options available.
What is Mantle Network? +
Mantle Network is an Ethereum Layer-2 blockchain using Optimistic Rollup technology with a modular architecture. It uses EigenDA for data availability (significantly cheaper than Ethereum L1 calldata) and Mantle's own sequencer for transaction ordering. MNT is Mantle's native token used for gas fees and governance. Mantle Network is fully EVM-compatible, enabling existing Ethereum dApps to deploy with minimal code changes.
What is the minimum ETH required to stake? +
There is no minimum deposit on Mantle Staking — you can stake as little as 0.001 ETH. This contrasts sharply with native Ethereum staking which requires exactly 32 ETH per validator (~$80,000+). Mantle Staking pools ETH from all depositors to run validators, making Ethereum staking accessible to any ETH holder regardless of position size.
How do I unstake and get my ETH back? +
Two options: (1) Instant unstake — swap mETH for ETH on Mantle DEXes (Agni Finance, FusionX) using deep mETH/ETH liquidity pools. This takes seconds but may have a small price impact for very large amounts. (2) Standard withdrawal — initiate a withdrawal request through Mantle Staking, wait ~7 days for the Ethereum beacon chain withdrawal process, and receive ETH directly to your wallet. Standard withdrawal has 0% fee.
Is there a fee for staking or unstaking? +
Mantle Staking charges: 0% deposit fee, 0% withdrawal fee. A 10% performance fee is deducted from earned rewards (not from your principal). This means if you earn 1 ETH in staking rewards, 0.1 ETH goes to the protocol treasury and 0.9 ETH remains yours. Ethereum gas fees apply to deposit and withdrawal transactions (typically $5–20 depending on network conditions). Instant unstake via DEX also has the DEX's own swap fee (~0.05–0.3%).
How does mETH earn yield automatically? +
mETH uses a rebasing-free model — instead of increasing the number of mETH tokens you hold, the mETH/ETH exchange rate grows over time. When Ethereum validators earn rewards, those rewards are added to the total ETH pool backing mETH, increasing what each mETH redeems for. Example: if you stake 1 ETH for 1 mETH and the exchange rate grows to 1.07 after one year, your 1 mETH now redeems for 1.07 ETH — you earned 0.07 ETH (7%) without any action.
Can I use mETH in Mantle DeFi? +
Yes — this is mETH's primary advantage over native ETH staking. mETH is integrated across 280+ Mantle protocols: use as collateral in lending markets (Lendle, Init Capital) to borrow other assets, provide mETH/ETH or mETH/MNT liquidity to DEXes (Agni Finance, FusionX) for additional trading fee income, deploy into yield aggregators (Pendle Finance mETH pools), and more. All while the base 7.2% staking APY continues accruing.
What wallets support Mantle Staking? +
Mantle Staking supports any EVM-compatible wallet: MetaMask (recommended), WalletConnect (for 400+ mobile wallets including Trust Wallet, Rainbow, imToken), Coinbase Wallet, Rabby Wallet, and hardware wallets (Ledger, Trezor) via MetaMask. Connect on Ethereum Mainnet for depositing and withdrawing ETH, or switch to Mantle Network to use mETH in Mantle DeFi protocols.
What is EigenLayer restaking and how does it work with mETH? +
EigenLayer is a restaking protocol that lets ETH stakers extend Ethereum's economic security to other protocols ("Actively Validated Services") in exchange for additional yield and points. Mantle Staking integrates with EigenLayer — mETH holders can opt their position into EigenLayer restaking to earn EigenLayer points (redeemable for future EIGEN airdrop allocations) plus additional protocol rewards, on top of the base 7.2% mETH APY.
Is Mantle Staking safe? What are the risks? +
Mantle Staking risks include: (1) Smart contract risk — mitigated by 3 independent audits and $2M Immunefi bug bounty; (2) Validator slashing risk — mitigated by $50M Nexus Mutual slashing insurance and 50+ diversified operators; (3) mETH liquidity risk — the secondary market price could temporarily deviate from ETH parity during market stress; (4) Ethereum protocol risk — underlying consensus layer changes could affect staking economics. No staking protocol is risk-free, but Mantle Staking has processed $2.1B with zero incidents.
How are Mantle Staking validators selected? +
Mantle Staking uses a decentralized permissioned validator set — 50+ professional node operators who are KYC'd, have demonstrated technical competence, and maintain performance SLAs (uptime, attestation rate). Operators are onboarded through Mantle DAO governance votes. No single operator controls more than 5% of the staked ETH, preventing concentration risk. Operators are economically incentivized through commissions and penalized via slashing if they misbehave.
What is the MNT token and how does it relate to staking? +
MNT is Mantle Network's native token. Mantle DAO allocates MNT from the treasury as bonus staking incentives for mETH holders, boosting the effective APY above base Ethereum staking rates. MNT is also the governance token — MNT holders vote on protocol parameters, validator selection, fee rates, and treasury spending. Staking ETH on Mantle earns both ETH rewards (as mETH appreciation) and MNT bonus rewards distributed periodically.
What is the difference between mETH and stETH (Lido)? +
Both mETH and stETH are liquid ETH staking tokens, but differ in: (1) Yield — mETH offers 7.2% APY vs. stETH's ~4–4.5% (Mantle's MNT bonus rewards add extra yield), (2) Ecosystem — mETH is optimized for Mantle Network DeFi with 280+ native integrations vs. stETH's broader but Ethereum-L1-centric integrations, (3) Architecture — mETH uses exchange rate appreciation (1 mETH = growing ETH amount), stETH rebases daily, (4) Size — Lido is much larger ($30B+ TVL) providing deeper stETH liquidity on Ethereum L1.
Can I stake ETH from the Mantle Network directly? +
Yes. Mantle Staking supports deposits from both Ethereum Mainnet and Mantle Network. If your ETH is already on Mantle Network (as bridged ETH), you can stake directly without bridging back to Ethereum. If your ETH is on Ethereum Mainnet, you can deposit from L1 and receive mETH on Mantle, or bridge first using the Mantle official bridge. The UI auto-detects your connected network and guides the optimal flow.
How long does staking take to start earning? +
Earnings begin immediately upon deposit. Your ETH is allocated to active Ethereum validators, and the mETH/ETH exchange rate grows with each Ethereum epoch (~6.4 minutes). The rate update is visible in your dashboard in real time. Note: on the Ethereum side, newly activated validators have a small queue period during high-demand times — Mantle Staking manages this by maintaining a pre-activated validator buffer, so depositors earn from day one without queue delays.
What happens to my mETH if Mantle Network goes down? +
mETH is an ERC-20 token on Ethereum Mainnet, not only on Mantle Network. Even if Mantle Network were to experience downtime, your mETH on Ethereum L1 remains accessible and redeemable for ETH through the standard withdrawal mechanism. Mantle Network downtime would affect DeFi integrations on Mantle L2, but the underlying staked ETH and mETH redemption rights on Ethereum are never affected.
Is mETH available on other chains? +
mETH is native on Ethereum Mainnet and Mantle Network. Bridged versions of mETH exist on other EVM chains through third-party bridges, but these carry additional bridging risk and are not officially supported by Mantle Staking. The deepest mETH liquidity and best yields are on Mantle Network where the ecosystem is built around mETH as a core DeFi primitive.
How does Mantle Staking handle Ethereum upgrades? +
Mantle Staking's smart contracts are designed to be upgradeable through Mantle DAO governance with a 48-hour timelock on all changes. The protocol actively monitors Ethereum roadmap developments (upcoming upgrades, staking changes) and proposes contract updates via governance as needed. All upgrades are security-audited before deployment. Stakers can always withdraw before any protocol upgrade takes effect thanks to the timelock.
Are Mantle Staking rewards taxable? +
Tax treatment varies by jurisdiction. In most countries, liquid staking rewards are treated as ordinary income when received (for rebasing tokens) or as capital gains when mETH is sold/redeemed (for exchange-rate-appreciating tokens like mETH). Since mETH uses exchange rate appreciation (not rebasing), some tax advisors treat mETH rewards as capital gains only upon disposal, which may be more favorable than income treatment. Consult a qualified crypto tax professional in your jurisdiction.
What is the Mantle Journey program? +
Mantle Journey is Mantle Network's ongoing points/loyalty program that rewards users for ecosystem participation. Staking ETH via Mantle Staking earns Mantle Journey XP points based on your mETH holdings. XP is used for governance weight, priority access to new protocol features, and may be redeemable for future rewards. The more ETH you stake and the longer you hold mETH, the more XP you accumulate.
Can I stake on behalf of another address? +
Yes. Mantle Staking supports specifying a custom beneficiary address when depositing — you can pay ETH gas from your wallet while directing the mETH to any other Ethereum address. This is useful for gifting mETH, managing treasury ETH for a DAO or multisig, or institutional use cases where the payer and beneficiary are different entities.
What is the mETH/ETH exchange rate today? +
The mETH/ETH exchange rate starts at 1.0000 when the protocol launches and grows over time as Ethereum validator rewards accumulate. The current exchange rate is approximately 1.0842, meaning 1 mETH now redeems for 1.0842 ETH — reflecting the accumulated staking rewards since protocol inception. This rate is updated on-chain with every Ethereum epoch and is visible in the Mantle Staking dashboard in real time.
What is Pendle Finance integration with mETH? +
Pendle Finance enables yield tokenization of mETH — splitting mETH into a Principal Token (PT-mETH) and a Yield Token (YT-mETH). This allows: fixed-rate mETH yield by buying PT-mETH at a discount, leveraged yield exposure by buying YT-mETH, or locking in future mETH yield rates. Pendle's mETH pools on Mantle offer one of the most sophisticated yield strategies for mETH holders seeking alternative yield structures beyond simple holding.
How do I add the Mantle Network to MetaMask? +
Add Mantle Network to MetaMask: Network Name: Mantle, RPC URL: https://rpc.mantle.xyz, Chain ID: 5000, Symbol: MNT, Explorer: https://explorer.mantle.xyz. Alternatively, visit Mantle's official bridge at bridge.mantle.xyz — it will automatically prompt MetaMask to add the Mantle network. Mantle Staking's website also includes a one-click "Add Mantle Network" button in the settings menu.
What is the Mantle Bridge and how does it relate to staking? +
The Mantle Bridge (bridge.mantle.xyz) is the official bridge to move ETH and ERC-20 tokens between Ethereum Mainnet and Mantle Network. When you stake ETH from Ethereum Mainnet, Mantle Staking may route through the bridge to deploy ETH on Mantle — this is handled automatically. Standard bridge withdrawals from Mantle to Ethereum take ~7 days (Optimistic Rollup challenge period), the same as mETH standard unstaking.
Can DAOs and institutions stake through Mantle Staking? +
Yes. Mantle Staking is designed for institutional use with features including: multisig wallet support (Gnosis Safe), custom beneficiary address for treasury management, bulk deposit APIs for large positions, dedicated OTC desk for $10M+ deposits, and institutional-grade custody integrations. Several Mantle ecosystem DAOs and treasury management protocols already use mETH as their primary ETH yield vehicle.
What happens if ETH staking rewards go down? +
Ethereum staking rewards fluctuate based on the total number of active validators on the network — more validators means each validator earns less (the total ETH issued is spread across more participants). If base ETH staking rewards decrease, Mantle DAO can offset this by increasing MNT bonus reward emissions from the treasury to maintain competitive APY. The DAO governance process manages the bonus reward budget to target competitive total yields.
How do I track my mETH position and rewards? +
Connect your wallet to mantlestaking.com to access the Portfolio dashboard showing: current mETH balance, ETH equivalent value at current exchange rate, total rewards earned to date, pending MNT rewards, daily earnings, and full transaction history. All data is pulled directly from on-chain sources for full transparency. You can also track mETH on Etherscan, Mantle Explorer, and DeFi portfolio trackers like Zapper and DeBank.
What is the Mantle LSP (Liquid Staking Protocol)? +
Mantle LSP (Liquid Staking Protocol) is the underlying protocol powering Mantle Staking and mETH. It consists of: a smart contract system managing ETH deposits, validator delegation, and mETH minting on Ethereum Mainnet; a cross-chain bridge for mETH on Mantle Network; and an oracle system that updates the mETH/ETH exchange rate. Mantle Staking at mantlestaking.com is the primary user interface for the Mantle LSP protocol.
Is there a Mantle Staking mobile app? +
Mantle Staking is accessible on mobile via mobile browsers with WalletConnect — open mantlestaking.com in any mobile browser, tap Connect Wallet, and select WalletConnect to link MetaMask Mobile, Trust Wallet, Rainbow, or any WalletConnect-compatible mobile wallet. A dedicated Mantle Staking mobile app is planned for Q2 2025 with native iOS and Android experiences and push notifications for reward distributions.
